Special olympics

In the spring and summer of 2017, I served as an aquatics coach for the Special Olympics. It was an honor to train athletes for the summer games at Harvard University.

"Gabriella volunteered with the Cardinal Cushing Centers Special Olympic Swim team. At Cardinal Cushing Centers, we support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, providing possibilities and opportunities for growth and advancement. Gabriella has proven to be a very dependable, young woman who committed to weekly practices, communicated responsibly, and always respected our students. She worked independently with our students, teaching them to better their stroke, attempt diving, and improve their swimming ability. One particular student benefited greatly from her coaching and was able to win the gold medal in his event. Gabriella was definitely an asset to our team; she is a wonderful young woman whose patience, dedication, and knowledge benefited many of our athletes."

ACT Summer Workshop

I was invited to serve as a summer camp counselor for the Academy of the Company Theatre Summer Workshop in 2017, an arts specialty camp for children and teens of all abilities, ages 5-18. The camp fosters creativity and builds self confidence through the arts. As a camp counselor, I worked with children in dance and music classes, planned events throughout the day to showcase their talents, and helped produce the closing Arts Festival.

Boston City Singers

The Boston City Singers was the first organization to foster my love of music and community. Founded 20 years ago in Boston’s inner city neighborhood of Dorchester, the Boston City Singers celebrates diversity and fosters goodwill with concerts throughout the city of Boston. I believe in the power of the arts to unite people and give voice to those who have been marginalized by society because of their disabilities or socio-economic status.

Inclusive Arts

I am passionate about inclusive arts, having performed with and for special needs students at arts festivals and in theater productions for five years. A project I am particularly proud of is a production of High School Musical that I helped to stage at the Cardinal Cushing Center, a school for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In the spring of 2018, I was Assistant Director of the South Shore Charter School inclusive production of You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, in which I worked with performers of all abilities, including students with learning and physical special needs.
